Specifics of producing a band

Producing a band has its own distinctive features and peculiarities. It cannot be said that creating and promoting a solo project is more difficult than a band, or vice versa. Different factors are taken into account here that need to be investigated in detail.

A project can be called a group if the number of participants is two or more. The extreme mark so far has reached eight people, but it is possible that this number may increase, as a result of the implementation of some original idea.

Producing by the group and by the project with one performer, as already noted, can be more difficult or easier, depending on other conditions. It is possible to distinguish several features that a producer should take into account when working on producing a band. Firstly, it is a different system for determining the fee for each member of the band. Here it is important to eliminate the leakage of financial information, otherwise it could lead to conflict situations. There are always personal agreements, which are not put up for public discussion.

In the process of implementing the project, the producer is waiting for more organizational work, so you need to worry in advance about discipline, schedule of work, rationally planning their activities. Financial expenses for the groups are much more than for a single artist (hotel accommodation, costumes, make-up, etc.), which can have a certain impact on the remuneration of each participant of the project.

The main differences are as follows:

  • The repertoire is designed for the group (i.e., performing the song on behalf of the group);
  • delegation of authority (soloists sing in different ranges, perform separate elements of the song, etc.);
  • different “balance of power” is possible (dominance of a single soloist, emphasis on personality, or an impersonal, even project);
  • the concept of the project is built on several characters;
  • the risk of disruption of concerts through the fault of the artist is reduced, since under some force majeure circumstances, the group can afford to go on stage and not in full composition.

Among the weaknesses of the producer-group project are the large amount of organizational activity, the instability of the composition of the group, etc. Of course, there are also advantages. And we emphasize, the most important of them is the ability to delegate authority. For example, it is not necessary that all the participants have vocal skills, the project can last on the vocal of one artist, or even an artist who is not part of the group.

As for a solo project, the selection of repertoire is usually guided by the character and charisma of one performer, which makes the project more specific and mannered only in the presence of a bright vocal data of the artist or original thinking of the sound maker.

Managing a solo project is sometimes no easier than promoting a group of two or more people. The following factors have an impact here:

  • personal;
  • financial;
  • managerial;
  • Psychological (the relationship between the artists, the artist and the producer).
